Working remotely from China for just one day without getting caught

Hello everyone! I’ve been trying to find a way to know how could I work remotely for just one day without getting caught. For context I work in a very big accounting firm, and we are not allowed to work from abroad. I am based in France. However I know some people have already worked from other countries (Martinique and Morocco) without any issues. I have a long flight with a 16h layover in China and those hours happen to be during my working hours on the Friday before my week off, so I thought it would be a shame to take the day off to be doing literally nothing and waste a day off.

I know since it’s China it’s a bit more tricky so I wanted to know if it would be realistically feasible to follow my idea. I’ve heard about esims and VPN and VPN router but not sure how they work and if they’ll work in China. My work computer has Connect Tunnel as a VPN with pingID used to activate it.
