- edit I have calculated after tax + cost of fuel, the hybrid role will pay me approx 15K more each year*
I am in Australia btw
I currently work remotely on 75K, and have been offered a new role on 105k in government.
My remote role isn’t inspiring work, the workload is very high and overwhelming and is client facing, and I don’t see the pay increasing much, nor my career progressing. The culture is also toxic at times, there isn’t really a culture also with no bonding or team time as the workload is so high. I imagine we’re all burned out a bit. We also have to time track everything and we’re monitored by spyware.
I don’t want to be in this area of my field long term, and this job was just a stop gap about my last org had redundancies.
The Gov role will be full time in office until probation is over- probably 2 months or until January when we move office. Then 2 maybe 3 days a week from home (if I can negotiate this). It’s about a 45 min drive or 1hr 45 on a train one way (this currently is $$ free).
I can’t decide whether to go for it! I really love remote work flexibility, and how I can fit my lifestyle around it, but I know long term I won’t be able to afford to live on this and there is no progression there.
