Q&A with Corey
Why did you want to Work From Home Forever?
Initially, because my daughter was only 18 months old, and I didn’t want to sit in a cubicle with 0 flexibility while she was in daycare all day. Then, as my business grew, and I had another daughter, I couldn’t imagine going back to an office, plus they couldn’t afford me!
How long have you been Working From Home, Forever?
19 years
What tradeoffs, if any, did you make in order to Work From Home Forever?
Never a guaranteed income, had to rely on husband for healthcare (then he got laid off), made less money in the beginning.
How do you manage work/life balance Working From Home, Forever?
I get up around 7:45 am (not an early bird) make my coffee and jump right into my work usually in my pjs. I work several hours, then will take a break either to hang out with my high school daughter during the summer at lunch time, or to take a 2 mile walk. I jump back on after lunch, and typically work until 5 or 5:30, then I’m off for the night. I do still check my phone, but I don’t commit to doing any creative work in the evening, just responding to urgent emails.
What’s your best advice to others who want to Work From Home Forever?
Keep a schedule like you would in a regular office. It helps you so you don’t end up working 70 hours a week, or if you get distracted easily, it will keep you fro working only 20. Also, try to connect with people for lunch or coffee so you still feel connected with humans.
What are your three must-haves to Work From Home, Forever?
1 – A good laptop
2 – Cell phone
3 – Discipline
