Meet Jack Lawrence
In a recent interview on the Work From Home Forever podcast, Jack reflected on his transition. After selling his private therapy practice, he found himself at a crossroads, contemplating an idea for a book he had carried for nearly four years. Jack seized the opportunity, channeling his energy into writing full-time. What began as a passion project soon evolved into a successful venture, leading to the publication of his first novel, Blood Thorn—a story that blends his expertise in therapy with fictionalized twists.
While the transition from in-person therapy to remote work may seem unconventional, Jack explained that the COVID-19 pandemic played a pivotal role in his career shift. Like many therapists, he was required to adopt telehealth methods, which allowed him to continue supporting clients virtually. Though Jack enjoyed the flexibility remote therapy offered, his true passion ultimately shifted to writing, a career that fit seamlessly with his desire for greater work-life balance.
Jack emphasized how working from home provided him the freedom to spend more time with his family. With three young children, the high cost of childcare and constant school breaks made the traditional office setting increasingly impractical. By working from home, Jack could be present for soccer games, school events, and parent-teacher conferences—moments he had missed in the past due to long work hours.
Beyond the personal benefits, Jack also touched on how working from home enhanced his professional life as an author. Without the confines of an office, he could carve out time to write while balancing family life. Promoting his books—such as winning the Fall Bookfest Award for Blood Thorn—became easier to manage with virtual events and flexible scheduling.
For Jack, the freedom and flexibility of remote work have been invaluable. As he looks toward the future with plans for a TV pilot and more books, he remains dedicated to his family while continuing to follow his passion for storytelling.
