It’s been around a month since I’m looking for a remote job. Instagram and other social media platforms got hold of it through trackers and started blasting me with this remote job boards platform called “surely remote”. I didn’t paid much attention to it, but thought of giving it a try. Found that it’s actually paid, which makes sense because these guys are spending a hell lot of money on social media ads, would be surprised if it was free lol. Anyways, I tried to gather some reviews but couldn’t really find anything useful on reddit. So, here’s my review after using this for about 7-10 days.
My profile: I’m a software engineer with 3.5 years of experience. I’m mainly looking for backend heavy python/ts roles or full stack engineering roles.
The review:
Interface: It’s pretty easy to use, there’s a search button with some filters. You cant’ have multiple key words in search but it takes cares of it because if i search software engineer their website does show backend and other engineering titles.
The filters are kind of limited, in terms of job freshness filters there are two filters. First one is within a week, second is all jobs.
You can save jobs and if you click on a job the job posting in the list shows a “viewed” tag on it.
The Downsides:
Number of jobs : There’s barely any jobs on the platform for engineering and none of them are new openings. There’s maybe 50 or so software engineering jobs relevant to me but even then most of them are a month old postings. I find this funny because their marketing was about them posting early than linkedin and otherplatforms.
Filters aren’t respected at all: I chose mid level filter for software engineering with freshness set to within a week, but since there’s barely any jobs with such filters(even though software engineering is as general as it could get), i’m seeing jobs uploaded 3 weeks ago or a month ago. The freshness filter isn’t respected at all. This is a big deal breaker for me. If i wanted to find jobs which are like 3 weeks ago, I could’ve easily gone to linkedin or somewhere else. I was completely shocked when I first discovered this.
3-4 new jobs in engineering segment in the last 7 days: I’m using this platform daily and I think I found 3 more jobs in the last 7 days. Every other posting is the same, and i’ve either applied to that job posting or ignored it since it doesn’t match my application. They’re barely adding any jobs in the platform.
My Verdict:
I’m pretty disappointed with the platform overall. I subscribed expecting a curated list of fresh remote opportunities that would save me time compared to LinkedIn and other free job boards. Instead, most of the jobs I’ve seen are weeks old, the freshness filters don’t appear to work reliably, and the number of new engineering openings being added is extremely low.
For software engineers, especially those with a few years of experience looking for backend, full-stack, or general engineering roles, I don’t currently see enough value to justify the subscription cost. The interface is clean and easy to use, but that’s not enough when the core product(the job listings themselves)feels stale and limited. As it stands, I found more opportunities from free platforms than through surely remote.
