After working remotely for many years, even before COVID, I had to accept a hybrid position in late 2023.
I was 1099 but also required to drive in to work twice a week and be available during regular hours. I understand the mis-classification.
I was then laid off for a short time and then hired back in another department. I insisted on W-2 because of the in-person requirement. They were then transitioning to three days a week.
Good points:
Good for training Good for people realizing that I’m a real person
Bad points:
Distractions:
We are moved to a different building and there are random tables placed in each department. No conference room available? Well, let’s just plop ourselves down at a table 5 ft from this other team that is focused and working. Let’s make sure that we cackle, act loud, and make as much disruption as we can! We will just have our meeting right here! Everyone is supposed to consider this to be normal? I think it’s bad manners, but it’s what the company is pushing.
Inappropriate bathroom situations:
There are mirrors across from the stalls in the ladies room, and the stalls have very wide cracks. I happened to accidentally catch a glimpse of someone’s private parts when I was washing my hands. I don’t need to know if my coworkers shave their genitalia! I feel bad for that person, spread open and wiping, and it’s not her fault that I saw her. I was trying not to. This is absolutely ridiculous that I should have to know these things about my co-workers! This is not the YMCA, and this is not the Orlando Naval Training Command boot camp! This is a professional place and I am in shock that privacy is so limited.
Bait and switch:
They have now taken away the cafeteria and the gym. The perks they pulled people in with have now disappeared.
Very ticked off. I’m just thinking that I want to fight the system, save my cash, and retire early. I’m not even bothering to look for a fully remote position due to the cheap competition. I’m seeing positions with my skill set and experience offering way less an hour. I’m going to tolerate this and get out of it as soon as I can.
