I (M22) am currently working at a fully remote company and I live at home, but for personal reasons, I need to move out as soon as possible.
My priority is maximizing my savings rate and minimizing financial risk. I have the freedom to work anywhere in the US so it kind of feels like I have so many options on places where my costs would be low. I make a bit over 100k in a pretty stable position but I would still like to be as wary as possible of spending too much.
My Non-Negotiables:
• Infrastructure: I need good stable internet as a large chunk of my day is on video calls or cloud work.
• Rent: Ideally under $1,200 for a 1BR in a safe, quiet area.
• Taxes: Strongly prefer states with no income tax or very low flat tax to keep more of my paycheck.
Ideally somewhere scenic. I love the outdoors (hiking, mountains, greenery). I also don’t want to be too far from a city—wherever I go I’ll likely be alone, so I don’t want to be more than like 2 hours from a good airport so I can visit friends.
What is everyone’s experience with remote work in different cities? Are there some places that stood out?
Any advice/insight would be appreciated, thank you!
