Like many people in this sub, my fully remote job has changed to a “hybrid” policy of 4 days in office. The annoying part is that my office is nearly a three hour round trip – so I waste all this time, money, gas, and mileage on my car just to join virtual meetings because my entire team is remote.

I was slowly starting to come to terms with this until our leadership announced last month that mandatory office hours are 9-3 and badging in/out will be monitored to ensure employees stay the full day. If you badge in at 9:05, apparently that’s considered late and can be grounds for termination.

With this very strict mandate in place, I’ve decided working 7-3 might be my best bet. Even though mornings are going to be tough, at least I don’t have to worry about an accident on the road that might make me badge in a few minutes late.

I’ve put OOO “calendar blocks” after 3 PM. Unfortunately, my fully remote coworkers keep scheduling meetings over that time block. They can see my OOO but choose to ignore it. When I ask them to reschedule to a different time, there’s always some type of excuse. Even today, I logged in at 7 am , hoping to log off at 3, and had to stay on until 5:45 pm because my manager couldn’t reschedule a last minute evening meeting.

I am so appreciative to even have a job in this economy, but my God, I’m getting incredibly frustrated – was it not stressful enough to deal with this micromanaging level of RTO from HR, but now the lack of consideration from my team and manager about my extremely lengthy (and useless) daily commute to the office. I don’t feel like I’m asking a lot from my remote team members to be considerate of all the RTO inconveniences I have to go through, but my boundaries and office hours are just not acknowledged. I’m so frustrated.

I can’t be the only one in this sub going through this situation – any advice?
