like many others, I’ve facing a potentail future situation where my job which is classified as remote (I moved after the pandemic my manager/HR and I re-classifed my job as remote within the system) may be impacted in the future, based on a recent company email basically implying that workers classifed as remote may be impacted in the future.

I thought I was “protected” – which is why I moved.

Anyways, I cannot absolutely move from my current location, which is two states away from the company office, due to family reasons.

however, there are basically zero opportunities in my field in the city I’m currently in – I’d probably have to take a massive pay cut and would be unable to afford my current living situation, which means I need to think hard about pivoting to a different area.

the good news is that I have around 3.5 years of living expenses saved up.

What are some immediate actions I can take now to be proactive in case this occurs? will I get severence or just be terminated?
