I’m realizing that interruptions don’t just “break focus” for me. They completely reset my thinking.
If I get pulled into a meeting, Slack message, or quick question, when I come back I have to:
- reread what I was doing
- remember why I was doing it
- reconstruct what the next step even was
That alone can take 15–30 minutes, and it happens multiple times a day.
Task lists and calendar blocking help with planning, but they don’t really help with “where was I mentally?”
Am wondering:
- Does this happen to you?
- Do you have any way of getting back into work faster after interruptions?
- Or do you just accept this as part of modern work?
