On every post here, on askamanager, under articles on the topic, there will always be a couple “I can’t believe I have to go to the office to have zooms with people sitting next to me” comments.

But they never explain specifically what they’re talking about. You can’t possibly be zooming your desk mate or someone down the hall, that would indeed be silly.

Is it really that big a part of your job? Is it because your coworkers aren’t going to work? Is it because everyone is scattered? Wasn’t that a thing before covid anyways? Do you not have any other reason to go to the office/is zoom really that much of your job?

If you’re more senior, do you ever speak up and say “let’s table this meeting until everyone’s in the office?”

I’m pro remote work as a concept BTW even though I go to work most days (since I have a nice office in lower Manhattan) but I definitely use WFH other days, I just really don’t think some of these arguments that people think sound pro-WFH land that way, this being one of them.
