Can my job find out I’m not actually living at the address I gave for remote work?

My current job only allows employees to telework if they live 40+ miles from the office. I used a friend’s address that meets the distance requirement.

Can my employer check where I actually live?

Would appreciate any advice or if anyone’s dealt with something similar. Thanks!
