Hello, I posted earlier here today seeking advice on remote offer that I received.
I got more details on the work life balance. I do not know if this is normal or not for remote work.
But the offer letter said i have to be available from 8:30 to 5:30 and potentially after 5:30. I asked if this could be shifted around somehow to end my typical workday at 5. The answer I got was very vague. “5pm will be difficult to manage consistently with deadlines to meet. If the work can be done and it can be balanced. Then we will do our best to accommodate.”
And I asked if the workday has a lunch break and this was the response I got. “Depending on family needs, some employees take their break at 4 or 4:30 and come back online to finish up after dinner. Some others start earlier to get a jump on things.”
This really infuriates me as I have small children that I need to pick up before 5:30pm.
And I’m unsure of this is a red flag??? “We believe in work hard and play hard philosophy here. When you’re working, you are here for client first need mentality. And when you need time off, it is critical that everyone take care of themselves and families.”
On top of this, the company also wants me to sign a restrictive covenant agreement as part of acceptance. In it there’s a clause that I cannot work for any competition or similar businesses doing similar work for 12 months. And unfortunately that’s enforced in my shitty state. It’s a very niche industry so I fear I can’t make any income if I sign this.
I’m baffled as the company policy says they believe in flexible work schedules. Should I walk away from this offer?
