For privacy, I’m unable to mention the company. It’s based in Australia. And I’m Indonesian btw. Basically, I was hired as a graphic designer last month because I previously worked with a medium sized brand in Australia. The company I work with is currently a small size enterprise. I was hired because of my portfolio of handling a my previous company’s social media and helping the brand grows from 2023 to earlier this year. Though the growth is slow because the audience is mostly Gen X and boomers. My current company has similar audience and my employer has been trying to bully me into these roles that I have no expertise in (except for handling social media). I even asked my older sister who’s the actual e-commerce specialist (she previously worked in Lazada for 8 years) and she said the role is complex, if they want proper analysis then they should’ve get an expert.

I am tied to a contract with an outsource agency, they connected me with my current employer. I’ve signed up a six months contract with this employer. My basic is to create design and social media content to raise social media followers and engagement, I’ve never dealt with sales nor e-commerce before and they clearly saw it in my portfolio that I only talked about followers and engagement rates but they’ve been very difficult the last two weeks. They keep looking for small mistake (like how I forgot to change my auto-correct from US spelling to Australian spelling in an email I sent to him) and then they would raise it to my agency right away instead of talking to me and let me fix that very small mistake, they make sure I was called in for a conference with my direct line manager.

Fortunately, my line manager understands that it’s a non-issue and that they’ve always been known to be difficult to deal with. I’m not particularly internalizing their nonsense crticism, I’ve dealt with the worst Karen ever. But I don’t know how to control my emotion that I won’t explode and send them a long ass message that between the two of us, they’re the one who’s a boomer experiencing second puberty and only talking in word salad that they probably don’t even know what they’re talking about smh 😭

Has anyone ever experience this? How should I deal with this type of person? I only shut them down by letting them know that the expertise they’re asking for requires me to talk with my manager and that it’s outside of what we agreed upon. Sure, that shut them down. But then they would repeat the same scrutinize the next day that it’s unbearable to work with them when all they’re doing is just nitpicking all of my hard work. I can’t resign btw my contract will give me a penalty if I resign before due time 🫠
