I’ve been fully remote for 1.5 years now, in the same company, pretty niche work that perfectly fits my skillset and that I can’t easily get elsewhere. Love the work, hate the CEO, (along with everyone else.) Thankfully, my work does not report directly to them or have very much interaction at all, which is the only way that I would have it. I’m not interested in promotion for the same reason. I’ve even been frank about it to my manager when they’ve tried to push me towards higher responsibility before. The only way I stay is if I stay out of their way. The retention in the job is awful, and the CEO is 100% why. Glassdoor reviews confirm it. Everyone knows it and is on eggshells around them.
Anyway, just has a meeting scheduled for next week to talk me through a new project they want me to take on, which is a direct report to the CEO. I’m already practising my diplomatic skills in saying no because that will be the end of my job if I take it on. And I absolutely love working from home otherwise. Gulp.
