Meet Phillip Magee
Phillip’s shift from a clinical role to a non-clinical role came at a noticeable pay decrease, however, Phillip discusses the ways remote work has helped him discover a new, rewarding approach to healthcare.
Phillip talks about his desire to improve patient outcomes and how he’s improving fellow healthcare colleague outcomes by teaching them and coaching them to transition to non-clinical, remote positions. Phillip highlights the must-haves in his home/office to keep him active while working set 8-5 schedules. Please take a listen to our great conversation with Phillip.
Key takeaways from our chat with Phillip:
- Phillip talked about helping others improve the quality of their lives as one of the rewarding aspects of being a physical therapist. Service to others is Phillip’s “why” and he transitioned from helping his patients with their therapy to helping physical therapists and other healthcare workers who are looking for employment options outside of the traditional, in-person, clinical setting to helping them find work from home options. So although the work environment has changed for Phillip, he still wants to improve outcome for others which is an admirable trait.
- He talked about the need to develop skill sets to set yourself apart within your organization. We talked about this in the context of what he would do to protect himself if a layoff were to occur. This is great practice in your career management in general. Make sure you are always learning and adding additional tools to your toolkit.
- Finally, Phillip really values the importance of physical well-being and working from home has allowed him to focus on that first with the standing desk and with the walking treadmill. He also talked about his must-haves with an ergonomic keyboard and a vertical mouse to avoid injuries with constant use. It’s important to focus on self care and Phillip really highlighted the ways he takes care of himself.
