Meet Maria Healey
The pandemic was a pivotal point which had Maria reflect on what she values most and we talk about her transition to a fully remote position over the last two years.
Maria talks about the flexibility she’s had in her career, how she pushed herself out of her comfort zone to be less introverted and how she stays engaged with her remote colleagues.
In this episode, we discussed:
- Maria spoke a lot about flexibility in her episode. From the layoff she spoke about where she was able to take on freelance assignments and network via LinkedIn, Facebook groups and other social media. Her ability to remain open and flexible has helped her tremendously in her journey.
- Maria described herself as an ex-introvert. She made sure to push herself outside of her comfort zone by facing her fears talking to strangers, so she took on a job as a bartender earlier in her career to force her to make conversations with strangers.
- Maria keeps her team members engaged via her effective 1:1 meetings. She uses that time to build relationships and rapport individually.
Listen to this interview for valuable insights on maintaining wellness, balancing professional and personal responsibilities, and the benefits of a structured routine.

Q&A with Maria
Why did you want to Work From Home Forever?
Much like many other parents, the pandemic closures taught me a valuable lesson in just how little time I was spending at home with my family. Once I was able to get that, I wanted to hold on to it permanently.
How long have you been Working From Home, Forever?
I accepted my first fully remote role two years ago.
What tradeoffs, if any, did you make in order to Work From Home Forever?
I don’t think I’ve had to make any trade offs in my decision to work from home forever. Quite the opposite – I’ve been given more money and better working conditions that ever before. If I were to have stayed in my last fully in-person role, I would have been asked to devote more hours outside the home in order to continue to advance.
How do you manage work/life balance Working From Home, Forever?
I have a very healthy balance that allows me to work early and end the day fairly early as well, making it possible to enjoy the time I have with my family.
What’s your best advice to others who want to Work From Home Forever?
Get yourself a standing desk and under desk treadmill! It greatly impacts my productivity while on the computer during the work day.
What are your three must-haves to Work From Home, Forever?
- A standing desk
- Under desk walking treadmill
- Hot coffee
