With all the return-to-office mandates happening lately, I’ve been thinking about what I’d do if my company pulled the same move. After 3 years of crushing it remotely, here’s the letter I have ready to go:
Dear [Manager Name],
Thank you for the opportunity to work with the team for the past three years. I’m writing to formally resign from my position, effective two weeks from today’s date.
When I started here, remote work wasn’t just a perk – it was how I delivered my best work. Over three years, I’ve: – Exceeded my targets every quarter – Led successful projects across multiple time zones
– Maintained strong relationships with team members I’ve never met in person – Saved the company office space, utilities, and overhead costs
The decision to require full-time office presence suggests a fundamental misalignment between how the company views productivity and how I’ve proven it works.
I’ve loved working here, but I can’t go backward to a model that doesn’t fit how I do my best work. I’ll be pursuing opportunities with companies that trust their employees to deliver results regardless of location.
I’m committed to a smooth transition and happy to train my replacement remotely.
Thank you for three great years.
Best regards, [Your Name]
Hopefully I never have to send it, but I’d rather have a plan than get caught off guard.
Anyone else preparing for potential RTO announcements? What’s your backup plan?
