No I don’t just mean be around people – I know there are cafes, libraries, even dog parks you can post up at with a hot spot. I mean community.
In the evening I frequently play pool. I can just show up to my favorite pool bar and on any given night there are reliably 2-3 minimum other people I know. There are probably 20 rotating regulars that I see. This brings me joy. It’s actually communal, not just social, because I’m a regular. Same with my dog park. But these are recreational and not at all professionally stimulating.
There’s a difference between being in a public place (your average bar, cafe, library) and being somewhere that fosters community (like a pool hall or a dog park). And I have no idea what the work from home replacement is. Cafes are loud. Libraries are meant to be quiet. Coworking spaces don’t cut it either because they sell this promise of a collaborative space but in reality who would you be there to collaborate with?? And they are frequently empty, or full of small little local teams that have no reason to talk to you.
I’m not advocating for a return to office, I just have no idea where I can go to get out of my house that is actually stimulating. where (cue “cheers”) there’s at least someone who knows your name, and I know theirs.
If you are somewhat an extravert what do y’all do to have some semblance of community and diversity and other-people-ness during the daytime (not off the clock)
