I just had my first interview in 5 years. I’m still employed but looking for a better salary. I was surprised that their approach was defensive; instead of a normal conversation, it was an interrogation. I felt I handled it, but the experience was awful. At one point, the woman there got very visibly annoyed when I tried to negotiate the salary. She told me, When you go to buy a can of Coca-Cola, do you negotiate its price?
This makes you look bad.” I replied, “If that’s how you see it. To me, this is just normal, direct communication. At this point, the third person present ended the interview because it was clear things wouldn’t proceed.
