I recently accepted a position (as an independent contractor) for which the recruitment process was highly intrusive. The company also uses surveillance software, which I’m very not on board with. There are no benefits beyond the pay, which is on an hourly rate, Having said that, the pay level itself is not too bad. The main advantage is that it’s fully remote. Anyway, overall vibes not good.

On the same day I accepted, I was invited to interview with another company where the vibes are much better. I suspect there will be no monitoring software, and that I would get a proper employment contract. Downsides: I think the pay might be worse, and I would have to go into the office 2-4 days a week. It’s a 45 minute commute each way.

In the event that I got an offer with the second company, how would you choose between these two? I’m reticent to quit on the position I’ve accepted so soon, because it kind of feels wrong… but on the other hand, they’ve shown me that they don’t care about their staff and don’t trust them anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts!
