I work from home a few days a week. I’m required to use a laptop issued by my company when doing so. My current setup is definitely in need of some work and I’m looking for advice.
What I’m trying to achieve: Essentially a plug and play solution that allows me to use the monitor and peripherals from my personal desktop computer. Would also like to limit messing around with cables when changing between work and personal computer. If I’m able to flick between the two machines fairly quickly, that’d also be incredibly helpful. Would like my partner to be able to connect her laptop to this setup relatively easily, too.
Current low tech solution: switch HDMI cable from desktop to laptop (requires crawling to get to the back of the tower under my desk). Peripherals are connected to a USB hub that either gets plugged into one of the laptop’s USB ports or into a USB extender cable, down the back of my desk and to the desktop. Lots of wires and messing around. I’m sure there is a more elegant solution out there…
