Just looking to vent and commiserate here. I work for a large university in the U.S. and we obviously went fully remote during covid – in 2021 many units returned to a hybrid schedule and some full time in office depending on their line of work.

I’ve moved jobs a couple of times here and my prior position was increased from 2 to 4 days in office per week after I left that position. Luckily, I currently work a nice hybrid 2 days a week schedule that I’m mostly okay with although I do have times where I wish I was fully remote or even 1 day per week in office. Well, today I heard that higher ups are pushing hard for a full return to office which is absolutely absurd. There are so many of us that could easily be fully remote, there’s not enough parking for everyone, let alone enough office space.

All of my meetings are held virtually still. I commute 45 minutes, sit at my desk all day by myself, and go home. There is rarely interaction with others unless needed. I just don’t get the push for RTO and I know everyone always says it’s because of quiet layoffs but that simply can’t be the case here. They desperately need more faculty and staff to keep up with the student population.
