I have been working remotely for a few years, but soon I will need to return to the office on a hybrid schedule. I am fortunate that, after some discussion and considering that I live relatively far away, I am only required to go to the office once a week, usually on days when we have departmental meetings or companywide events. They just need me to be physically present for a few hours so it is clear that I am on a hybrid schedule and not working entirely remotely, since the company no longer allows full remote work.
On my in-office day, I can arrive at 10 a.m. and leave by 3 p.m., but the commute is still time-consuming. I first drive 10 to 15 minutes to a train station, then take a 40-minute train ride to Downtown, transfer to a subway for 5 minutes, and finally take a bus rapid transit service on the highway for about 30 minutes. The total travel time from the train station near my home to the bus stop near my office is about 90 minutes. Including the drive from home to the train station and the walk from the bus stop to the office, the entire commute takes around 2 hours one way.
Although I am only in the car for 10 to 15 minutes each way and most of the trip is on public transit, which is comfortable and even enjoyable, the overall commute is still 2 hours in one direction. What do you think? Does anyone else have a similar commute?
