We’re alive for just a fraction of the time and you have to make sure that every minute you spend on the earth is well spent. So I’d rather spend some time working or spending it with my family and friends than commuting.

Andrey’s perspective on the impact commuting has on productivity and the available time he can spend with his loved ones

Meet Andrey, Psychology-Driven Digital Marketer

Andrey is a psychology-driven digital marketer and he shares his story on this episode of the Work From Home Forever podcast. He decided to switch to working from home to focus on producing output and eliminate inefficiencies like the time and cost of a daily commute and the cost of renting a workspace.

Instead he prioritizes fitness, spending time with his friends and family and his cat. As an introvert, Andrey values the quiet environment in his remote workspace where he can work and read in peace. He feels his best work is produced when he’s able to focus on his tasks for long uninterrupted periods of time.

Finally, his cat is always around when he works from home, which is a pleasant bonus.

On this episode, we talk about:

Q & A with Andrey

Why did you want to Work From Home Forever?

  • I decided to switch to working from home to focus most of my time on producing output and cut the inefficiencies like the time and cost of daily commute, cost of renting a workspace, etc. I have more time to attend boxing and CrossFit classes and do weights training.
  • As an introvert, I also appreciate the quiet environment in my home office where I can work and read in peace. My best work is produced when I’m able to focus on my tasks for long uninterrupted periods of time.
  • Last but not least, my cat is always around me when I work at home, which is a pleasant bonus.

How long have you been Working From Home, Forever?

  • 7 years

What trade offs, if any, did you make in order to Work From Home Forever?

  • I sometimes miss the social dynamics of an office environment. As much as I enjoy my introverted lifestyle, I still enjoy being around people from time to time and engaging in interesting conversations live.

How do you manage work/life balance Working From Home, Forever?

  • I schedule and time-block my week ahead of time using project management software that has  integrations with both my work and my personal calendars.

What’s your best advice to others who want to Work From Home Forever?

  • One of the main advantages of working in an office environment is that just simply being around other people adds more accountability to your work.
  • One of the hardest things to tackle when you are working from home is to create the same level of accountability for yourself. This includes things like eliminating distractions like Netflix, games or any other entertainment from your working environment, eliminating any other triggers for potential distractions, setting strict deadlines for your tasks and projects.
  • It also helps to meditate daily to keep your mind calm and focused, avoid reading news, use plugins that block content feeds on platforms like Facebook or YouTube. Use these channels to only look up the information you need or to post content that’s beneficial to your business.
  • To sum up: eliminate distractions, set deadlines, build accountability in.

What are your three must-haves to Work From Home, Forever?

  • Have a separate room for work or a home office (if you can), don’t eat/sleep in the same room.
  • Develop accountability and discipline.
  • Don’t rush, but try to execute your work quickly and efficiently, leaving enough time for family and friends, physical activities, reading, being outside and “recharging your batteries”.
